Like most of America, when it comes to the 4th of July, I am all about the BBQs, fireworks, shopping the summer sales and waving (and wearing!) the colors of Old Glory. There is all that, but what about showing our patriotism in ways that truly demonstrate to fellow Americans that we are a special part of the glory that has made this country great?Show your colors according to the symbolism of the Red, White and Blue
- RED – “Hardiness, Valor:” Give blood(!), Make a donation to the American Heart Association or Bono’s RED Campaign to End Aids by 2015
- WHITE – “Purity, Liberty:” Help clean-up a local park, light a candle in remembrance of a loved one, give a home (freedom!) to a shelter animal
- BLUE – “Honor, Justice, Loyalty:” Visit a Vet – honor him or her! Give to the Wounded Warrior Project by donating or simply reminding others by posting and sharing the link on FB, or read a story about our Founding Fathers
Even if you are not feeling so patriotic on July 4th remember that for 236 years, this country has been and continues to be the proud land of the free and the home of the brave. Pick a color – impact a life, honor a soldier, save a life, including a furry one. Meantime, listen to Jimi’s version.
Have a Rockin’ Happy 4th!
